Forming Stake No 5 — Synclastic & Anticlastic Double-Ended, 9 Inch Hardened Steel, Polished

A No. 5 stake for silversmiths raising holloware, bracelets and domed sculptural forms. The two identical ends carry matching synclastic and anticlastic profiles, so a piece can move between concave and convex passes without a tool change mid-form. The stake is hardened steel throughout, with a central hexagonal block that seats securely in a bench vice. Both working surfaces are brought to a high polish, so precious metal comes off the stake clean rather than carrying tool marks into the planishing stage. At 9 inches overall it also earns a place with armourers and restorers working sheet metal. Wipe the faces dry after use to protect the polish.
