Your statutory rights

Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, UK consumers have 14 calendar days from the day after receipt to cancel a distance-purchase contract for any reason. You then have a further 14 days to return the goods.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, you have additional rights if goods are faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose — these apply regardless of our voluntary returns window.

Our 30-day return window

On top of your statutory rights, we offer a discretionary 30-day no-questions-asked return window from the day you receive your order.

Eligible

  • Unused tools in their original packaging
  • Tools that have been bench-tested but show no signs of wear, modification, or use beyond initial inspection
  • Tools that arrived faulty, damaged, or not as described (we cover return shipping in this case)

Not eligible

  • Items personalised or modified after purchase (e.g. custom-stamped, ground-down, hand-finished to spec)
  • Consumables that have been used (e.g. saw blades after first use, drill bits after first use, abrasives part-used)
  • Items returned after 30 days where no fault is present (your 14-day statutory window will have closed; we may still offer a partial refund or store credit at our discretion)

How to return

  1. Email info@toolsmithltd.co.uk within 30 days of delivery with your order number and the reason for return
  2. We'll send you a return authorisation and the return address
  3. Pack the item securely (original packaging where possible) and ship it back tracked
  4. We'll inspect on receipt and process the refund

Return shipping cost

  • Faulty / damaged / wrong item: we pay. We'll either send a prepaid label or refund the return postage on receipt.
  • Change of mind / wrong choice: you pay return postage. We recommend a tracked service for anything over £30.

Refund timing

Once we receive and inspect the return:

  • Eligible returns are refunded to your original payment method within 5 working days.
  • Card refunds typically appear in your account in 3–10 working days depending on your bank.
  • We refund the price you paid for the goods. Original outbound shipping is refunded only if the return is for a fault or our error.

Faulty goods (UK Consumer Rights Act 2015)

If a tool develops a fault that's not caused by normal bench wear:

  • Within 30 days: you have the short-term right to reject — full refund.
  • 30 days to 6 months: we'll repair or replace; if that's not possible or proportionate, partial or full refund.
  • 6 months to 6 years: still covered for inherent manufacturing defects, but the burden of proof shifts to you.

These rights are statutory and can't be waived.
