Achieve precise internal diameters on wax models with this solid steel carving reamer, essential for accurate ring sizing before casting.

What it does

This reamer tapers smoothly, allowing you to enlarge wax tube interiors from 13.5mm to 20.3mm with controlled material removal. Its six precisely ground cutting edges ensure a clean, even finish, reducing the need for extensive post-carving cleanup. The robust, solid steel construction and ergonomically textured grip provide confidence and stability during use, making it a reliable tool for consistent results on the bench.

How to use it

  • Select the appropriate starting diameter.
  • Gently rotate the reamer within the wax model.
  • Clean the cutting edges after each use.

Who it's for

A staple for UK silversmiths, jewellers, and serious hobbyists engaged in lost-wax casting. This tool streamlines the process of preparing wax models, replacing less precise methods and ensuring your cast pieces achieve the intended finger size without guesswork, making it ideal for intermediate to professional benchworkers.

Common questions at the bench

How do I use it?
Twist it gently into the bore of the wax, taking off a little at a time. Work from both ends of a ring tube, turning the wax round between cuts, so the bore stays straight rather than tapered.
How do I know when the size is right?
Check the size often as you go, for example by sliding the wax onto a ring mandrel, and slow down as you get close: wax comes away quickly and cannot be put back.
Can I use it on metal?
No. It is a wax reamer, made for sizing and carving wax, as this product's description says. Using it on metal would blunt or chip its cutting edges.
How should I look after it?
Clear the wax from its cutting edges after use, as its description advises, and store it so the edges do not knock against other tools.
