Common questions at the bench

What can these cut?
Check this product's description and stay within any material or size it gives. Cutting harder or thicker material than a cutter is made for, such as steel or memory wire in a cutter not made for it, is the quickest way to chip or dent the cutting edges.
How do I get a clean cut?
Hold the work steady, keep the tool square to it and cut in one firm, steady movement. Do not twist, rock or lever the tool during the cut; that is what chips and dents cutting edges.
Will the cut end need finishing?
It depends on the cutter and the material. If this product's description says what kind of cut it gives, such as flush or semi-flush, that is what to expect. Either way, check each cut end or edge, and file or smooth any that is sharp, ridged or burred if it will touch skin or show on the finished piece.
How do I keep the cutting edges sharp?
Use the cutter only on the materials it is made for, never as pliers or a lever, and keep the edges from knocking against other tools. Wipe it clean and store it dry. Once the edges are chipped or dented they crush rather than cut cleanly.
