For jewellers and watchmakers needing reliable inside-diameter measurements, this UK-stocked brass sliding caliper is a workshop staple. Its non-magnetic construction and notched jaws are ideal for accurately sizing rings, bezels, and watch components without risk to delicate movements.

Key features

  • Solid brass construction prevents magnetising watch movements or scratching delicate workpieces.
  • Notched jaws are specifically shaped for taking accurate inside-diameter measurements.
  • Dual metric and imperial scales are clearly etched onto the body for easy reading.
  • A knurled brass thumbscrew locks the sliding jaw securely for transferring measurements.
  • Provides a full measuring range of 100mm / 4 inches for common bench tasks.

Who it's for

A practical measuring tool for UK bench jewellers, horologists, and clockmakers. Also favoured by model makers and engineers who require a non-marring, non-magnetic caliper for working with delicate materials and components.

Common questions at the bench

Is this safe to use on a vintage watch?
Our case holders, spring-bar tools, and movement holders are designed for vintage and modern watch handling. Soft-jaw inserts protect plated bezels. For one-piece sapphire crystals and brittle dials, slow down and check the description for material limits.
What screwdriver size fits my watch?
Most modern watch movements use 1.0–1.6 mm screwdriver tips. Vintage Swiss often runs 0.8–1.2 mm. Our screwdriver sets cover 0.5–3.0 mm in 0.1 mm increments — you will use 4–6 sizes regularly. Hollow-ground tips grip the screw slot without slipping.
Why do I need a demagnetiser?
Modern phones, magnetic clasps, and stray fields from speakers magnetise watch movements, causing time-keeping drift. A 30-second pass through a demagnetiser fixes most cases. A £20 desk demagnetiser pays for itself within the first time you would otherwise pay a watchmaker to diagnose it.
Can I work on a Rolex or other high-end piece?
These tools are bench-grade and suitable for hobbyist and professional watch repair. For warranty-affecting work on serial-tracked luxury watches, always check whether intervention voids your warranty before opening. We cannot verify what is appropriate for every brand.
