Raising holloware means moving between synclastic and anticlastic curves, and this double-ended No. 6 stake provides both families of profile on one 9-inch tool. Its medium-radius forms suit vessels, hollow forms and sculptural work in non-ferrous sheet.

The stake is machined from hardened steel and polished to a high sheen, so the tool itself never prints marks into precious metal. The central hexagonal shank seats securely in a bench vice without rotating under sustained hammer work, keeping the forming surface exactly where you set it.

  • Double-ended design offers multiple synclastic and anticlastic forming surfaces.
  • Machined from hardened steel and polished to a high sheen to prevent marking precious metals.
  • Central hexagonal shank provides a secure, non-slip grip in a bench vice.
  • The No. 6 profile is ideal for creating medium-radius curves in holloware and jewellery.
  • All our tools are UK-stocked for immediate availability.

Who it's for

An essential tool for UK silversmiths, artisan jewellers, and metalsmiths engaged in raising and forming holloware. Also suitable for armourers and restorers working with non-ferrous sheet metal who require a reliable forming stake.

Common questions at the bench

How do I hold it?
If it has a shank or central block, grip that firmly in a bench vice or stake holder so it cannot turn or move under the hammer. If it has its own base, stand or holder, set that flat and firm on a solid part of the bench.
Which hammer should I use on it?
If this product's description names what to strike it with, use that. Otherwise a mallet, or a hammer with a clean, smooth face. Strike the metal, not the stake: a blow that lands on the stake itself can dent or scratch it, and the mark will then print into the work.
Will it mark my work?
A clean, smooth stake leaves the metal clean; any scratch, dent, rust or grit on it prints into the work. Check this product's description: if it says a working surface needs dressing or polishing, do that before using it on work where the finish matters.
How should I look after it?
Wipe it clean and dry after use and store it where its working surfaces cannot knock against other tools. A light wipe of oil on bare steel helps prevent rust in a damp workshop; wipe it off before you form finished work.
