Opening a split ring without chewing it up is thankless work with flat jaws. The tip of these pliers is shaped for the job: it parts split rings and jump rings cleanly and holds the coil open while you thread on a finding, a charm or a clasp. The long, curved nose reaches into cramped assemblies — chain maille, beadwork, charm bracelets — where a straight jaw would block your view.

Stainless steel keeps the tool dependable in damp conditions, such as a pickle-splashed bench, and the serrated inner jaw section grips wire firmly when you need to pull. Spring-loaded handles reopen after each squeeze to spare your hand, with cushioned non-slip grips. 14 cm end to end; made in Pakistan.

  • Specialised jaw tip designed to easily open split rings and jump rings without distortion.
  • Long, curved nose provides excellent reach and visibility for intricate work.
  • Spring-loaded handles return to the open position to reduce hand fatigue during repetitive tasks.
  • Constructed from stainless steel for durability and corrosion resistance.
  • Cushioned, non-slip grips offer comfort and control at the bench.
  • Serrated inner jaw section provides a secure grip on wire and findings.

Who it's for

Jewellery makers, beaders and chain maille artists: opening split rings and jump rings without distorting them, and fitting findings, charms and clasps. Also useful to scale-modellers for fine assembly work.

Common questions at the bench

How do I open a split ring?
Slip the tip of the pliers between the first two coils of the ring to open a gap and hold it there. Feed on the chain, key or charm, then turn the ring round until it sits fully on the coil and release.
Will these mark the ring?
Any jaw can mark soft metal or a polished finish if you grip too hard or the jaws are dirty, and serrated or textured jaws mark more easily than smooth ones. Use the lightest grip that holds the piece and keep the jaws clean; on finished or plated work, cover metal jaws with masking tape or use nylon-jawed pliers.
How should I look after them?
Wipe them clean after use, keep them dry and store them so the jaws do not knock against other tools. Keep the moving parts free of grit and filings so the action stays smooth, and do not use them as a hammer or a lever.
