Parallel pliers grip along the whole jaw rather than at one pinch point, which is why they hold wire and small components without crushing or slipping. Here a flat serrated jaw works against a V-grooved jaw, so round stock seats in the groove and stays put while you pull, twist or hold.

The compound box joint keeps the jaws true through their travel, an internal return spring opens them between grips, and the bare steel handles carry stamped texturing for control. At 140 mm they suit bench jewellers, model engineers, beaders and fly-tying enthusiasts — anyone whose materials punish a careless grip.

  • Compound box joint mechanism ensures jaws remain parallel throughout their movement.
  • One flat serrated jaw works against a V-grooved jaw for securely gripping round stock and wire.
  • An internal return spring opens the jaws automatically, reducing hand fatigue during repetitive tasks.
  • Bare metal handles feature stamped texturing for improved grip and control.
  • Durable steel construction provides a solid feel and reliable performance at the bench.

Who it's for

An essential tool for bench jewellers, model engineers, and electronics technicians working with fine wire and components. Their non-slip grip is also favoured by beaders and fly-tying enthusiasts for manipulating delicate materials without causing damage.

★★★☆☆

The problem with these is the massive return spring. Why does a pair of pliers even have a return spring ? I have flat nose, needle nose and round nose pliers and they dont have return springs. Its virtually impossible to lightly grip something or even lightly squeeze and item because the force needed to over come the spring is greater than that needed to feel the work in the jaws.
Disconnect the spring and i would raise these to 4 star but the construction is still too large and clunky for accurate work like jewellery repairs etc..

Common questions at the bench

What does parallel action mean?
The jaws stay parallel to each other as they open and close, so they grip evenly along their length instead of closing at an angle like standard pliers. That even grip helps when holding flat strip or sheet, straightening wire or holding work that must not slip.
Will these mark my work?
Any jaw can mark soft metal or a polished finish if you grip too hard or the jaws are dirty, and serrated or textured jaws mark more easily than smooth ones. Use the lightest grip that holds the piece and keep the jaws clean; on finished or plated work, cover metal jaws with masking tape or use nylon-jawed pliers.
Can they cut wire?
Only if this product's description says it has a cutting edge or built-in cutter. Otherwise use a separate wire cutter; cutting or twisting hard wire in holding jaws can damage the jaw faces.
How should I look after them?
Wipe them clean after use, keep them dry and store them so the jaws do not knock against other tools. Keep the moving parts free of grit and filings so the action stays smooth, and do not use them as a hammer or a lever.
