A bench alternative to press-forming: ten polished steel dies in domed, concave and flared profiles, worked with the included nylon hammer to shape bangle and bracelet blanks by hand. Because the die controls the form, every piece repeats — useful when a design sells and you need six more. The technique is close kin to dapping and doming.

The nylon head moves silver, copper and other non-ferrous sheet and wire without bruising the surface, while the wooden base keeps all ten dies ordered at the bench and the steel post and plate hold the working die steady. Well suited to silversmithing students learning repeatable forming.

  • Ten polished steel dies in a variety of domed, concave, and flared profiles.
  • Includes a nylon-headed forming hammer with a wooden handle for non-marring work.
  • Supplied with a wooden storage base to keep all dies organised at the bench.
  • Features a steel mounting post and plate for securing dies whilst working.
  • Designed for hand-forming silver, copper, and other non-ferrous metal sheet and wire.

Who it's for

A practical kit for bench jewellers, silversmiths, and metalsmiths who regularly form bangles and bracelets. It is also ideal for apprentices and silversmithing students learning repeatable die-forming techniques as an alternative to free-form hammer work.

Common questions at the bench

What weight hammer should I start with?
For most bench work, 4–8 oz is the sweet spot. Lighter hammers (2–4 oz) suit fine detail and chasing punches; 6–8 oz suits forging and texture work. Avoid anything over 12 oz unless you specifically need a raising hammer.
Can I use this on annealed silver and copper?
Yes — these hammers are designed for non-ferrous metals: silver (sterling, fine, britannia), copper, brass, bronze, and aluminium. The polished face will not transfer marks to clean annealed stock when used correctly. For mild steel work, use a separate hammer.
How should I care for it?
Wipe the face down after each session to prevent any tarnish from work residue marking your next piece. If the head develops nicks, polish them out with fine-grit emery and a buffing mop — a marked hammer face transfers marks to your work.
What is in the box?
One hammer with the head and handle fitted, ready for the bench. Polished faces are protected with a thin oil film — wipe before first use.
