The cameo head is a classic profile for pendants and earrings, and a well-behaved blank for enamelling; model engineers will find it a handy repeatable part too. Slide annealed silver, copper or brass sheet — up to 18 gauge (1.02 mm) — between the plates of the die block, seat one of the four punches and shear the blank free with a firm blow from a brass or nylon mallet.

Block and punches are machined from hardened carbon tool steel, each punch about 38 mm long with a sharp, ground cutting edge. Anneal your metal and use a cutting lubricant before punching; both habits keep the cuts clean and the edges working like new.
