Die block and punches are hardened carbon tool steel, the punches precision-ground with a sharp cutting edge and a bevelled striking end. Anneal your metal first, keep it to 18 gauge (1.02 mm) or thinner, work on a solid surface and strike with a soft-metal or nylon mallet; a smear of Bur-Life or a similar lubricant preserves the edges.
