Punches are bevelled at the striking end and precision-ground at the cutting end, and — like the 76 × 76 mm die block — machined from hardened, tempered carbon tool steel. Rated for silver, gold, copper and brass up to 18 gauge (about 1.02 mm); cutting lubricant before each strike prolongs the edges.
